Empathy – understanding of another’s feelings
the ability to identify with and understand somebody else's feelings or difficulties
Links are made throughout our lives. I connect with you and you connect to me - a link. Repeat to infinity. That simplistic concept rules our lives down to the most complex extent. Life is connected in sometimes the oddest ways with these links and it often seems that it is the links that define the road we travel. Now enter empathy into the equation. All the links that seem obvious become, ...well, not. Empathy is the missing link between some people. It can be the defining difference that can change our lives and set those we are connected to off to different paths. If you use your empathy wisely in your life, it can be good. But if you succomb to empathy, it can become a series of "I don't want you to hurt." This is usually good if the same will be reciprocated. But what if it is not? Does the "save yourself button" get turned off? Are you always trying to save someone else of the hurt and not yourself? The reality for a person feeling empathy is that you can never save yourself the hurt. Because in thinking about any situation, even for a second, you feel the other persons feelings.
So there can only be two separate existences - that will never touch. No link .
